After reading this I tried to become a fan of everyone, but I think it's too late for HamsterHuey. I think he knows I'm a fan though.

Hi Adam ~ Nikki here ~ sorry not have have been by sooner but it's crazy busy at work. When I received your cd in the mail along with the liner notes, I was a bit hesitant. I am a HORRIBLE snob about anything close to country music. It has just never connected other than Johnny Cash and a very few others. But this project requires an open mind so that is how I listened. Your description is absolutely accurate ~ a stunning musical treat for riding along country roads and loving our lives. A great companion for just being and, for thinking about who we are along the way.. I LOVED LOVED LOVED your track (four) and will listen to this any time I need to breathe and exhale the toxins of the day. The lyrics on many of the songs were beautiful and supa is right ~ the story builds and bestows thought, grace and an appreciation for being into our spirits. Thanks so much for sharing this with us and for taking the time and money to send it to me. hug I'll be back over the weekend with a sorted out list of my favourites.

Hey Nikki! I'm glad you enjoyed it! I'll admit, I was a bit of a country snob until I tried it out and found that there was a lot of great music I was missing out on by getting my snobberation on. wink I tried to pick songs that wouldn't be too hard to appreciate, but it also happens that these are some of the best songs out now too country-wise. I'm glad you dug my song too! I'm a promotion whore. wink wink

See, for me, because I was forced into a life of horrors on the country/offwheeling/bluegrass circuit, I had major issues with the genre lol One thing that I do absolutely appreciate about country/folk/bluegrass is the story telling clapping This is what made this mix for me. The fact that I came away with a narrative. nod

From one perspective I can see where the Jill Scott tune might seem like the odd woman out to some amidst the other guitar driven, country-tinged tunes in the set. But from your perspective it works in the context of a group of fun tunes to listen to while running down the highway.

I've always found myself singing along with the chorus when Life Is A Highway would come on the radio.
Rascal Flatts did a decent job with it so i'll pick that as the favorite.

Almost forgot, nice solo on your tune. cool

Thank you sir! wink I like the JS tune a lot and realized it was going to be kind of the odd song out stylistically, but in the context of what kind of vibe I was going for it fit perfectly.

Good point. There was a common thread among the songs, and it wasn't necessarily that they were guitar based rockers (it just happened to be that many of them were).

Heyheyhey, I haven't given a full runthrough, so here goes.

Days Go By-Keith Urban

Good intro as it tells us everything we need to know about your mix/trip. Where we are going, how long it's gonna take, the weather forecast and what's for lunch.

Love Vibration-Josh Rouse

I just love the sound this track has. It just feel as a breath of fresh air or a warm bath is probably better. Weird thing is, it doesn't feel like 'step into the sunshine'. It kinda has a melancholy feel to it. I don't mind, I don't usually listen to lyrics.. lol The sax sounds nice (a bit dirty every now and then), love the stomping bass on every beat.

Golden Days-The Damnwells

This voice. I can't place it, there's a syllable here and there that are off. It's like he puts on a voice. On the other hand it draws me in as well. As you said an indescribable vibe.

We Could Be So Happy-Adam James

Again the stomping bass on every beat! biggrin I love you included this one. Your last note from the solo that fades away thumbs up!

Night Birds-Ryan Adams

Nice, tucking it in behind your happy song. Excellent song. Enough said.

Money City Maniacs-Sloan

Picking up the tempo again! Classic rock. Good fun that this music is still around. (It is recent right?) I think that rock like this could be bigger than it is right now, instead of that washed down rock or freak-rock we have now.

Love Don’t Live Here-Lady Antebellum

Quite nice, even though you gotta have a little sweet tooth to enjoy this. Maybe because of the video, but it seemed like they were trying a bit too hard to make you like them. A bit more attitude or nastiness could do no harm!

Golden-Jill Scott

I lost Jill Scott after her first record. Still love her. She does something to me, oewhee! About the vocoder, to me it seems a bit misplaced, the piano does add a whole lot.

She Is Love-Oasis

Oasis definitely rub me the wrong way. This song tells me there's some music (maybe even talent) in the band, but I just can't stand them. Sorry.

Life Is A Highway-Rascal Flatts

Huh? Didn't expect this one. Indeed candy. I get that you were going for simple songs here and there, but this seems kinda weird. I like the song, but whofarted

Faves are Love Vibration and Night Birds. I'll go with the first!

Great mix, love the theme and even though there are simple songs here and there and rocks harder now and then and you included Jill Scott, I love the vibe and consistency. Thanks a bunch!

A great song about what it’s like to be in love. Everything’s perfect, the tempo, the arrangement and the melody is killer. It does a really cool building thing that comes to include handclaps and other things. Check out the organ parts about 2 minutes in! Noel sings this one too which is a bit of a switch and somehow gives it a little more sincerity.

Damnit. I wanna dislike these guys, okay? This is a nice track though. It's even fantastic.

Great writeup Sander!

biggrin

As for the Lady A video, yeah, when I first saw it I was kinda like whofarted Cuz it really has NOTHING to do with what the song is about. It might have been just a low budget clip they put out to promote the song, but damn, they could have at least TRIED to make it parallel the song a little. lol

Days Go By - Keith Urban - This wasn't bad at all. I had never heard anything from Mr. Nicole Kidman before and it was a nice surprise. It won't make me go out and buy any of his albums or anything, but it's very pleasant.

Love Vibration - Josh Rouse - I like this one a lot. It reminds of Welcome Back Kotter and other cool 70s stuff like that. I can hear it riding in the back seat of my parents' car right now.

Golden Days - The Damnwells - Another nice, if somewhat inoffensive track. It's like the Goo Goo Dolls when they don't annoy me.

We Could Be So Happy - Adam James - Upbeat and bouncy. Love the guitar solo! You can really play! If all your songs sound like this, you should be on the radio. It's very professional.

Night Birds - Ryan Adams - Like someone else said, I've seen Ryan Adams' name in several magazines, but never really heard any of his stuff and didn't expect this at all. It sounds ethereal and makes me recall Radiohead. This is more of a nighttime driving song. Perhaps my second favorite on the mix.

Money City Maniacs - Sloan - After listening a few times, this one is still the winner for me. The harmonies, the 70s guitars like The Raconteurs (which I love) or The Soundtrack Of Our Lives, it all adds up to awesome. I'll have to investigate more of their music.

Love Don’t Live Here - Lady Antebellum - Nice vocals. The melody is very strong too. Of the three country-leaning songs on your mix, I like this one the most.

Golden - Jill Scott - Like others have said, this one stands out a little too much. Whereas the others are more daytime driving songs, this one says late night like the Ryan Adams song. Maybe if positioned next to that track, the segue wouldn't be so harsh. Despite that, I do see the similarities with the other songs. Not into Jill Scott much, but it's a good track.

She Is Love - Oasis - I'm so used to hearing Liam sing Oasis songs, that this confused me a little. More folky than what I know about Oasis. Very cool.

Life Is A Highway - Rascal Flatts - I never cared for the Tom Cochrane song at all, but this one does improve on it a little by giving it more punch.

Good mix! smile
